BusinessContent marketingContent writingResearchTechnical content writing is on the rise!

Though an engineer by qualification, the writing was always my first love. I joined Spacebar as a technical content writer, where I got an opportunity to combine my knowledge of technology with my passion for writing. The added perk of this job was the need to keep myself updated with everything that’s buzzing in the space of technology. This way, my learning just never stopped. My initial days as a technical writer were full of anxiety and nervousness. I was new to technical content writing. And I’ll have to admit that my Editor played a big role in mentoring and grooming my writing skills. However, I kept trying a lot of learning and improvement exercises on my own too. With practice and understanding, I kept getting better at technical content writing, and so here in this article, I bring some easy to follow steps that can make technical writing easy for you too!

Research extensively

Technical content writing requires research.

Make sure your research is thorough!

Technical content writing is about educating your audience while not losing out on the fizz. Right after you receive a topic to write, carry out extensive research on it. With tons of information available online, it is now quite simple to grasp any topic. Refer a variety of blogs, videos, and news pieces to get a thorough understanding of all aspects of the topic.

Prepare a structure

After collecting enough information from various sources, the next step is to prepare a structure for your article. A structure helps shape your thoughts and opinions about a topic and lends coherence and flow to your article. A structure, in simple words, is an outline of the items you’d like to talk about in your article and the sequence in which you’d do so.

Keep it simple

Technical content writing doesn’t necessarily mean that you’ve got to use complex jargon in your articles, to sound knowledgeable. While it is true that you are writing for a niche audience, the strength of your writing lies in the lucid explanation of complex subjects. Include examples, statistics, and facts to make your article look credible, well-researched, and easy to read.

I haven’t reached a place where I can call myself a ‘guru of technical writing,’ but following the above steps religiously has helped improve the quality of my articles consistently. I hope you find these steps useful too.
