Your mind is primed, your eyes are locked and your fingers are ready to start typing words, but the words are just not coming out. You know what you want to type and at the same time, you don’t know what you want to type. There is a confusion you feel. Creativity is a fickle thing and for many, it’s not an easy thing to capture. It just randomly comes and goes when you least expect it. Sometimes the creative juices just run out. It’s like arriving at a gas station and there’s no gas.
And, it not only for writing, all arts requires some form of creativity. So here are some tips to find those creative juices.
Be a Collector
Whenever you come across something interesting, collect it. If it is a newspaper or a magazine article, cut it out and paste it in your scrap book (if you don’t have one, start now!). If it is something on the net, bookmark it. If it something your passing by on the street, click a picture. And if it is random idea that pops into your head, note it down.
Interesting things will constantly give you inspiration to be creative.
Do Something
Research has shown our brain activity tends to increase when we are actually doing something. Go out for a walk, start cleaning up your room or whip up a snack for yourself. While you are doing these things, constantly run through various ideas which would suit what you need. Doing something is much better that just sitting down and trying to come up ideas.
Take a Break
No matter how much you try, you cannot force creativity. At times, you need to just take a step back and think about something else. Watch a film, read a book or play a game, just get your head out and stop thinking about it.
Help Someone else
Sometimes, you just need to stop cracking on your idea and help someone else out. If you are a writer, help out a friend who is trying to come up with ideas for a film, art or music. Move away from thinking about creative ideas for yourself to someone else. Playing with someone else’s idea and helping it get better will improve the way your own mind thinks and help get the creative juices flowing.
Brainstorm
Brainstorming with friends or colleagues is one of the best ways to get the creative juices flowing. This is because, the ideas are proposed by your friends will stimulate your own mind and push it to come up with an idea to put on the table with your friends.
There will be days when you have a creativity burst and there will be days when your creativity is as dry as the desert. Whatever it may be, it is important you give yourself place to breath.
