Music blaring, fingers chattering on a keyboard and words being typed out onto a screen; that’s the way a content writer rolls in Spacebar (not all though, you can roll however you want). Once Mumbai was an industrial city, running on the threads of mills, but today it has shed its skin for a corporate suits powered by the service industry. So what is the life of a content writer? Is it just type, type and type? Is it just stuck at a computer terminal typing away? So many questions for the ignorant, so many questions for the misinformed and so many questions for the uninformed.
Content writing is more of a skill and less of a talent. In other words – you ain’t need to be no Shakespeare or David Ogilvy. You just need to be you because no one can write like you. A content writer has an affinity to words and most of all, a good one will be able to connect dots, words and topics in ways unimagined before. True, you need a talent for writing, but a content writer can do without it. With enough practice, he will have the skill to match a talented writer.
So what is his Schedule?
After some rambling, let’s return to the topic at hand and dwell deeper into his schedule. The alarm rings and then it stops. Like every human being, the morning calls for a battle between sleep and the need to wake up; and just like every day, when sleep is almost about to win, our content writer jerks himself awake. A quick brush, shower, breakfast, sip of a hot beverage and he’s out of the house and off to work.
At work, the laptop switches on. He types, pouring his heart and energy into the creation of words and crafting of articles for clients. Some of the clients are half way across the world, some are just half an hour drive away.
Then, the usual lunch break, tea break, in between chilling out and finishing up of work, and after that off from work, back into his house.
Not much of schedule? But if a bunch of timings were added to the above paragraph or maybe if a time table was added, it would sound more like a solid schedule. But, hey, we’ve got to prevent the successful content writer’s schedule from getting copyright infringed; plus no one wants to put up private information on the net.
What does he type?
So what does a content writer type? A content writer is constantly forced to change his format for writing and deal with a variety of topics. From travelling in Canada to fixing up a WordPress website to crossing international borders to owning the digital marketing world; in a word – versatile writing (okay, that’s two words).
Tools of Trade
A content writer is a professional (or at least he has to portray that he is a professional). He has only one tool of trade and that is the office laptop. That’s the one place where the clattering of keys occur and music isolates him from the outside world. With the fury and heart he types, in sometime there is a chance that the laptop will come alive with his spirit (remember Christine).
Writing, anyone can write, but to write well and with skill? That’s something I can do.
