Here\u2019s what also happened in the last 5 years. <\/span><\/p>\n

- Tristan got hired by Alpana, somehow <\/span><\/li>\n
- He starts writing, (FYI – his writing\u2019s not that great) <\/span><\/li>\n
- His writing gets a bit better, within limits of course<\/span><\/li>\n
- He makes a couple of blunders (surprise, surprise – they\u2019re grammar related) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Somewhere along the way, he starts training a few interns<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
Actually, this story is taking too long. Suffice to say, there\u2019s a lot that happened in the last 5 years. And I think addressing myself in the third person is not working. Not long ago (actually a couple of days ago, if you can count on your fingers) Spacebar celebrated its 5 year anniversary. \u00a0As someone who has been with Spacebar for 5 years, that\u2019s no easy feat. Only 10 out of a 100 startups survive within their first 5 years. Not only did Spacebar survive, it thrived. <\/span><\/p>\n
Slow but Stable Growth <\/span><\/h2>\n
When I joined Spacebar, it didn\u2019t even have an office. We worked out of a shared working space with an e-commerce company. It took about two years for Spacebar to grow sufficiently to finally get an office of its own. Growth, especially stable growth, is not easy for a company. The challenge for Spacebar was growing with strong foundation roots that last.<\/span><\/p>\n
Carving out the Market <\/span><\/h2>\n
Here\u2019s something I learned from the industry: The competition is <\/span>freaking <\/span><\/i>tough.<\/span><\/p>\n
- \n
- Everyone thinks they\u2019re a writer (spoiler alert – they are not) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Cheap and crappy freelance writers are always ready to beat our price (plenty of times they work for free too!) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Plenty of marketing agencies also have content teams<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
So Spacebar had to differentiate itself in the market. Two things worked for us (FYI – this is our secret recipe) <\/span><\/p>\n
*Cue in the drum roll*<\/span><\/p>\n
*Drums are rolling*<\/span><\/p>\n
*Still rolling*<\/span><\/p>\n
And those two things are\u2026. <\/span><\/p>\n

- Being the first of its kind content agency in India (What? I\u2019m trying to make a sales pitch here!) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Writing for niche industries<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Anybody can be a Writer <\/span><\/h2>\n
In my 5 years at Spacebar, I\u2019ve also dabbled in leading a team and training writers. Here\u2019s the special secret about writing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Anybody can write<\/p><\/div>\n
Everybody has the potential to be a good writer. Writing is not some inherent talent you\u2019re born with. People from all walks of life with no experience in writing (except that they \u201clike writing\u201d) have joined Spacebar. Within a month, they\u2019re writing articles like well-oiled machines (thanks to regular practice).<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyone can learn a skill. If you learn to write without grammar errors, research-well and write well-flowing sentences, you can call yourself a decent writer.<\/p>\n
A Journey at an End <\/span><\/h2>\n
Okay. Enough about Spacebar, let\u2019s talk about me. <\/span><\/p>\n
I originally joined Spacebar to write. However, not only did I landed up writing, I also: <\/span><\/p>\n

- Taught people how to write <\/span><\/li>\n
- Led client meetings (miraculously without laughing, mostly) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Planned and led projects (quite often with Murphy\u2019s Law) <\/span><\/li>\n
- Turned clients from cold to warm leads<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
All of this made my time at Spacebar an unexpected journey – because I <\/span>just <\/span><\/i>expected to write. More than the work, my time at Spacebar has been enjoyable because of all the interesting people I\u2019ve met. <\/span><\/p>\n

- Clients who think they\u2019re taking over the world <\/span><\/li>\n
- Clients who are brimming with ideas and passion <\/span><\/li>\n
- Colleagues who don\u2019t give you a moments peace – <\/span>especially<\/span><\/i> in the morning! <\/span><\/li>\n
- Also, there is a special place in hell for those who rob toys from your desk (they\u2019re just jealous)<\/span><\/li>\n
- And those special colleagues who\u2019ll order food for because you can never choose what to order\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
It\u2019s been an unusual journey, and now that journey ends. Or, if you want to be dramatic.<\/span><\/p>\n
So, a lot has happened in the last 5 years, for me, and for Spacebar too. It\u2019s been a fun, unexpected journey and not to sound cliche, but it\u2019s been full of twist, turns, tumbles, and bumbles. At Spacebar, you never know what new opportunity is going to appear there.
